Parade, picnic among events celebrating America's workforce

TERRE HAUTE — Laborers aren’t readily identifiable by their outward appearances. After all, atop their heads rest hard hats, hairnets and ballcaps. Their feet are adorned with steel-toed boots, three-inch heels and sneakers.

How workers can be easily tagged is by their effort, commitment and perseverance — bad days as well as good.

Our charge today, Labor Day 2012, is to recognize and pay tribute to America’s workforce.

From everyone here at the Tribune-Star, to the men and women who toil, a most sincere thank you!

Here are opportunities to celebrate labor today in Terre Haute:

• The Labor Day Parade steps off at 11 a.m. at 11th Street and Wabash Avenue.

• A picnic at Fairbanks Park along the banks of the Wabash River begins after the parade.

• The annual Labor Day Banquet starts with a social hour at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and a program at the Holiday Inn, U.S. 41 South.
