Traditional 4th activities set to run, step and gallop

TERRE HAUTE — July the Fourth may not include fireworks for many people this year, but another Independence Day tradition, the annual Frontier Day Parade, is set to clip-clop down Wabash Avenue on schedule.

The parade, sponsored by the Wabash Valley Horseman’s Association, will begin forming at 9 a.m. Wednesday and move out at 9:30 a.m. from Fourth Street and Wabash.

The parade, which features horses and buggies, will move east down Wabash to Ninth Street, then north around Hulman Center and then back down Wabash on Eighth Street.

“Usually we have a pretty good crowd of spectators down Wabash,” said Jeanne Lorenzo, president of the association, which formed in 1945.

Following the parade, which is expected to include up to 200 horses, awards will be presented at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds beginning about noon. After the awards presentation, an open horse show is scheduled to begin at the fairgrounds.
