Police issue ‘extreme caution’ alert in search for wanted man

TERRE HAUTE — Police urge “extreme caution” to the public in the search for wanted suspect Justin Compton, 26, who may be in the Seelyville area near Miami Gardens Road.

Compton is believed to be in possession of a handgun, and has made threats to police and the public, said Clark Cottom, chief deputy of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department.

Compton is described as 5-feet, 5-inches tall weighing 140 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos, including “white pride” on the right side of his neck, “Compton” on the inside of his left arm, demonic faces and a skull on his upper right arm.

Cottom reports that Compton had appeared for a sentencing hearing in the Vigo County Courthouse last week when he suddenly exited the courtroom, jumped from the second-floor rotunda and fled the building.

Detectives spoke with family members who advised that Compton supposedly has a terminal illness, and he fled because his sentence is longer than his life expectancy.

Cottom said family members report that Compton has vowed that he will not die in prison.

A search for Compton has been ongoing since he fled, but police decided to issue the public alert when it was learned that Compton may now be in possession of a handgun.

Anyone who sees Compton or has information on his whereabouts is urged to contact police by calling 911.

“Please use extreme caution when dealing with Justin Compton,” Cottom said.
