Vehicle floating in Wabash was stolen last summer

TERRE HAUTE — A vehicle spotted Tuesday in the Wabash River by a helicopter crew was found to be stolen and dumped in the river.

At about noon, Vigo County authorities received the report of the partially submerged vehicle.

A tactical unit from the Sugar Creek Fire Department responded to an area near Darwin Ferry in southwestern Vigo County. Four personnel with the tactical unit took two boats to the scene, but did not launch into the river. The vehicle could be seen from shore and was observed to be stripped and had no occupants.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department sent two deputies to the scene to investigate. VCSD confirmed that the vehicle, described as a white Chevrolet Blazer, had been reported stolen last year.
