TERRE HAUTE —
The Sisters of Providence of St. Mary-of-the-Woods will host a prayer vigil in conjunction with the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, which is having its national meeting in St. Louis.
The prayer vigil will be from 6-7 p.m. Thursday, in the Church of the Immaculate Conception and is open to the public.
LCWR is an association of the leaders of congregations of Catholic women religious in the United States. Founded in 1956, the conference assists its members to collaboratively carry out their service to further today’s mission of the Gospel.
At its annual meeting, LCWR will be contemplating a response to the Vatican’s recent action that could lead to a major overhaul of the LCWR because of perceived dissent on major church issues such as women’s ordination, stances on issues pertaining to homosexuality and what the Vatican describes as radical feminism.
The prayer vigil will offer Scripture readings and readings from the Second Vatican Council, hymns and segments of silent prayer and reflection.
Organizers say the purpose is to recognize the importance of the LCWR meetings with regard to the current Vatican directive and to offer prayers and hymns with those sisters in St. Louis this week who are formulating the organization’s response.
