Vigo County library interviews possible directors

TERRE HAUTE — The three final candidates to succeed Nancy Dowell as director of the Vigo County Public Library were in Terre Haute for final job interviews Friday morning.

The three met separately at the downtown branch with members of the library board Friday morning, said Hank Metzger, president of the seven-person board.

“The interviews went well,” Metzger said, reached late Friday afternoon.

All three candidates have masters degrees in library sciences and are currently working as professional librarians, he said.

The board expects to call a special public meeting, within the next couple of weeks to vote to name the new director, Metzger said. The interviews Friday morning were closed to the public due to dealing with personnel matters.

There were approximately 25 applicants for the director’s position. A professional search firm assisted the board members in narrowing the field to the three finalists.

Dowell announced her upcoming departure from the director’s position this summer after 13 years as the library’s leader. She will remain until the new director is in place.

The library board is made up of seven volunteers. Three are appointed by the Vigo County School Board, two by the Vigo County Commissioners and two by the Vigo County Council.
