Driver still on the lam after multi-state police chase

Authorities not releasing much information

TERRE HAUTE — Authorities on both sides of the state line were still short of answers on Thursday about a high-speed pursuit which occupied hours of police time the day before.

The suspect, reported to be named Bryan Keith Egress, 28, of  West Virginia, remains at large and was last seen driving a maroon 2000 F-250 pickup truck, reportedly stolen from a home in rural Sigel, Ill., which is just north of Effingham. That truck, according to information provided by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, is believed to be the fourth vehicle stolen since the chase began about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Terre Haute.

According to information provided by city police, Terre Haute officers began chasing a passenger car with Missouri license plates after observing its driver passed out at the wheel near Locust and North 16th streets. Scanner traffic followed the cross-country trek, which left Terre Haute, headed north through Vermillion County, west into Illinois and south through Paris, Ill. Along the way, the male driver reportedly crashed the first car, stole and crashed a pickup truck, stole and crashed an all-terrain vehicle, then stole another pickup.

Officers and dispatchers at the Edgar County Sheriff’s Department reported Thursday afternoon that they had no new information about the pursuit, nor had any arrests been made.

According to information provided by the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, the driver is believed to be Egress, who uses an alias of “Nathanael Lynn Starsick,” with two dates of birth listed: April 1, 1984, and April 14, 1983.

According to Webster’s Third New International Dictionary, the word “egress” is defined as “the act or right of going or coming out as from a place of confinement.”

The date April 1 is also recognized as April Fool’s Day.

A man identified as Nathanael L. Starsick, 29, Aurora, Mo., was listed as being arrested by Joplin, Mo., police late in the evening on May 9 on suspicion of driving while suspended/driving while license revoked.

And a man identified as Bryan K. Egress, 28, Mannington, W.Va., is listed on a criminal offenders website as having been convicted in June 2008 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Another site shows a person of that name as an inmate at the North Central Regional Jail, Greenwood, W.Va., with May 2009 as a release date.

Described as a white male, 6 feet tall and 205 pounds, the man is believed to have brown hair and blue eyes. He also is believed to have a residence in Fairmont, W.Va., but driver’s licenses from that state, South Carolina and Pennsylvania. Tattoos are reportedly located on both shoulders, both wrists, both arms, his right calf and left hand.

The suspect is believed to have had a female passenger with him.
