Citizen’s report leads to driver’s arrest

TERRE HAUTE — A citizen’s report landed an allegedly impaired driver in jail early Saturday morning as officers discovered drugs in the vehicle.

According to a news release issued by the Indiana State Police, James Pizzola, 20, of Terre Haute was arrested Saturday as a result of the call which came in about 2 a.m. Initial allegations include operating a vehicle while intoxicated with a prior case, a class-D felony, possession of a Schedule I through IV Controlled Substance, a class-D felony, possession of under 30 grams of marijuana, a class-A misdemeanor, possession of paraphernalia, a class-A misdemeanor, operating a vehicle with a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance, a class-C misdemeanor, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a class-C misdemeanor and illegal transportation of alcohol by a minor, a class-C misdemeanor.

Another driver reportedly called to inform police that a “small green passenger car” was swerving on the road, heading north on Third Street. Troopers located the a vehicle matching the description driving north on Third near Chestnut street and observed it swerving across the lanes.

During the traffic stop, approximately 27 grams of marijuana and 11 assorted “suspected narcotic tablets” were discovered, the report states. Pizzola was taken to Union Hospital for a blood test which reportedly found him to be under the influence of both narcotics and marijuana and he was taken to the Vigo County Jail.

The Indiana State Police encourages all motorists to report suspected impaired drivers by dialing 911.

According to the Vigo County Jail’s automated inmate system, Pizzola will appear in Vigo County Superior Court Division 5 at 11 a.m. Monday.
