Probable cause found, but no charges coming for pair tied to fatal shooting

Seelyville —

Two people arrested for assisting a criminal will not be charged in connection with the shooting death of a fugitive.

Kenneth E. Ingle, 35, of Seelyville, and Brandy I. Wahl, 35, of Terre Haute, were arrested Thursday night after police say they believed the pair allowed fugitive Justin Compton to stay at their home on Baker Street, knowing that Compton was wanted by police. Compton was later shot and killed in an altercation with police.

Ingle and Wahl appeared Friday morning in Vigo Superior Court 6 where Judge Michael Lewis found probable cause for their arrests.

However, Deputy Prosecutor Jason Sanders said that because of the Ingle’s and Wahl’s cooperation with police in the investigation of Compton’s shooting death, no criminal charges will be filed against them.

Police went to the Ingle residence on Wednesday afternoon to serve a warrant on Compton, but he was not there. Detective Tim Osburn of the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department told the judge that Ingle was warned that allowing Compton to stay at his home could result in a criminal charge against Ingle.

A tip to police led them to return to the Seelyville home and find Compton exiting the home. Compton fled into a wooded area, where police pursued him. Compton was shot and killed by a police K-9 officer after police said he swung a knife in a threatening manner and charged toward police.

An investigation by the Indiana State Police is under way.
