TERRE HAUTE —
New Goshen and Shepardsville firefighters made short work of a house fire in rural West Terre Haute on Tuesday evening.
No one was injured in the fire, which damaged a single room in a home on Holdaway Place in rural Fayette Township, said New Goshen Fire Chief John Schoffstall.
The fire, which was reported about 6 p.m., started after the resident of the home left candles unattended, Schoffstall said. There were no working smoke detectors in the home, he noted.
Less than 100 gallons of water was required to extinguish the blaze, Schoffstall said, adding that firefighters had the fire out in about 10 minutes.
