Reward offered for information on deadly Garfield Towers fire

TERRE HAUTE — A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for a fatal fire May 21 at Garfield Towers in Terre Haute.

Terre Haute Police Detective Lt. Ed Tompkins said the Terre Haute Housing Authority is offering the reward in hopes that an arrest can be made in the arson case.

One Garfield Towers resident died from medical complications as a result of injuries he sustained in the fire, which was started in the sixth-floor lounge of the apartment building.

Posters asking for information about the fire have been posted in the area of the Garfield Towers apartments, including gas stations and grocery stores in the Twelve Points neighborhood.

Tompkins said that anyone with information to share can contact him at the Terre Haute Police Department at (812) 244-2207.
