Parke County man struck by vehicle, dies

Rockville — The Parke County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a man apparently struck by a vehicle on U.S. 41 north of Rockville.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.

The victim’s identity was not being released as of Tuesday evening, although an autopsy had been scheduled earlier in the day at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.

The body was found in the northbound lane of U.S. 41 about two miles north of Rockville.

According to the sheriff’s department, it’s believed that the victim, a white adult male, had been struck by a vehicle that left the scene.

“It is possible that the vehicle could have been a commercial motor vehicle and that the driver may not have known that they had struck a pedestrian,” according to the sheriff’s department news release.

Anyone wh o traveled through the area between midnight and 1 a.m. and who may have information or who may have seen the victim walking or in the roadway is asked to contact the Parke County Sheriff’s office at (765) 569-5413.
