TERRE HAUTE —
A Yellow Taxi van early Wednesday morning was struck from behind by a speeding pickup truck, whose driver police believe was intoxicated and faced an initial probable cause hearing in a Vigo County court, said Capt. Carl Green of the Terre Haute Police Department.
The accident occurred about 3:15 a.m. near the intersection of 13th and Cruft streets. A pickup truck, going at a “good rate of speed” ran into the back of the taxi, Green said.
The driver of the van received a laceration to a leg, while a passenger in the van was taken to a hospital with severe head trauma, Green said. The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to a hospital. A passenger in the pickup truck was not injured.
“The driver was intoxicated, with a high blood alcohol content,” Green said.
Police detectives will take part in an initial probable cause hearing in Vigo County Court Division 5 today for possible charges against the pickup driver.
