TERRE HAUTE —
Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a moped crash Saturday night that critically injured a Terre Haute man.
According to a news release from the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department, deputies located a man later identified as Robert B. Hoole lying in a ditch next to his moped, not breathing and unresponsive. The scene was in the 1900 block of North Hunt Street at 10:31 p.m.
Medics transported Hoole to Union Hospital where he was revived and then reportedly flown to an Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis because of injuries. A blood draw at the hospital showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.216 percent.
According to the release, no other vehicles or persons are believed to have been involved.
Alcohol was listed as a factor in the accident, but no citations or charges had been filed as of Sunday.
According to personnel at Methodist Hospital, Hoole remained in critical condition Sunday evening.
