Police searching for three people who fled scene of crash

TERRE HAUTE — Police continued Wednesday night to seek three people who fled the scene of a crash on Lafayette Avenue where a car ran into an office building earlier in the day.

Victor Justin Julio Boehmer, 21, of Terre Haute, was arrested at the scene of the crash by Indiana State Police on charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle and driving while intoxicated.

Witnesses reported that three other people in the vehicle fled the scene.

Indiana State Police Trooper Brian Thomas said he clocked a southbound 1999 Acura speeding 40 miles per hour in a 30-mph zone on 12th Street near Beech Street around 2:50 a.m. The driver sped off and disappeared, Thomas said, but the car was found a short time later after it crashed into the general office of Jiffy Mini-Marts in the 1000 block of Lafayette Avenue.

The driver, whom police identified as Boehmer, was found injured and lying outside the building. He was taken to Union Hospital for treatment of leg injuries. He was later released and booked into the Vigo County Jail.

Jail records state that Boehmer is scheduled to appear in Vigo Superior Court 5 at 11 a.m. today on charges of vehicle theft, resisting law enforcement and driving while intoxicated.

Police also found that the car had been reported stolen on Sunday to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department. The car’s owner resides in Carmel, police said.
