TERRE HAUTE —
First Financial Bank, Data Management Shredding, Union Hospital and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 will be on hand at the bank’s Meadows banking center Saturday to collect and securely dispose of a variety of personal items.
Among those items are old personal papers, receipts, tax papers, canceled checks, medications and worn-out American flags.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The Meadows banking center is between Ohio Boulevard and Poplar Street on 25th Street in Terre Haute.
The rise in cases of identity theft has made the public more aware of the dangers associated with disposing of personal papers containing identifying information such as account numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information, or other identifying numbers and information.
Tossing bank statements, old bills, paycheck stubs, prescription bottles and similar items into the trash can provide information for potential identity thieves.
Old medications can also be difficult to dispose of as can be old and worn American flags.
The event Saturday is free and open to the public.
