Driver suffers injury in I-70 wreck 4 miles into Illinois

TERRE HAUTE — A five-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 plugged up traffic Monday afternoon.

According to a media release issued by the Indiana State Police, the incident occurred about 1:32 p.m. near the 4-mile marker east of the Illinois state line in the east lane.

A coach-style recreational vehicle driven by Kenneth A. Sparks, Granbury, Texas, was reportedly following a passenger vehicle driven by Alexander T. Bloch, Gahanna, Ohio. When Bloch’s vehicle slowed down for the construction zone at the 4-mile marker, Sparks’ was unable to stop quickly enough and rear-ended it, according to the report.

This collision produced a chain-reaction involving three additional vehicles.

The interstate was reportedly closed for two hours while the accident site was being cleaned.

Bloch’s vehicle was reportedly a total loss and he was transported to Regional Hospital of Terre Haute complaining of head injury. A condition update was not available Monday.
