TERRE HAUTE —
Several firefighters responded to a call at Honey Creek Middle School on Thursday evening when custodians noticed a burning smell on the second floor.
According to Superintendent Dan Tanoos, an air handling unit disengaged, which caused the motor to lock up — creating a smell and a haze.
No fire alarms went off.
No one was in any danger and there is no damage to the building, Tanoos said.
The air handling unit needs to be replaced, and the second floor could be a little warmer than usual today, he said.
At least three fire departments responded — Honey Creek, Riley and Sugar Creek, as well as school district staff, Tanoos said.
A Honey Creek Middle School volleyball game was disrupted and those attending had to evacuate, Tanoos said.
