Ivy Tech’s MLK Jr. Center moves to Meadows area

TERRE HAUTE — Ivy Tech Community College has leased space in Terre Haute’s Meadows shopping area for its Martin Luther King Jr. Center after recently closing the former site at 1438 S. 13th St.

This is a transitional move, Ivy Tech said, as plans are being developed for a permanent location in the Rural Health Innovation Collaborative district near Union Hospital.

The new location, 9A Meadows Center, is in the lower level of that building, between Ohio Boulevard and Poplar Street at 25th Street.

The space features about 6,100 square feet and has a computer lab, four classrooms, a testing room and office, a receptionist area, a coordinator’s office, a faculty/advising area and a student lounge/vending area.

The new site was chosen for its more visible location, expanded parking, convenient bus service and larger space.

René Hankins, executive director of secondary initiatives and outreach, is excited about a new approach being planned at the facility.

“We are planning new classroom layouts to encourage a collaborative learning environment with integrated technology,” she said.

Fall classes begin Aug. 20. For more information about classes or the new facility, contact Hankins at 812-298-2355 or rhankins@ivytech.edu.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony  is being planned for 11:30 a.m. Aug. 29.
