Seven bands are scheduled to perform at the second annual “On the Banks of the Wabash” Community Band Festival on Saturday in Fairbanks Park.
The music is to begin at 2 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. The Terre Haute Community Band, the festival’s host, said two new groups, the Bloomington (Ind.) Community Band and the Pipes and Drums of the Fountain Trust from Covington will make their first appearances in Terre Haute.
The Montgomery County Civic Band is scheduled to kick off the event at 2 p.m. followed by the Pipe and Drums at 3 p.m. The Marshall (Ill.) City Band will perform at 4 p.m. followed by the Brazil Concert Band at 5 p.m., the Bloomington Community Band at 6 p.m., the Greater Greenwood Community Band at 7 p.m. and the Terre Haute Community Band at 8 p.m.
In the event of rain, the festival will move into the YMCA building on the grounds of Fairbanks Park.
The audience can expect to hear rousing marches; medleys of tunes from Broadway and motion pictures; popular songs from different eras; and music written especially for band performance.
Tents will be erected to provide shady areas for the audience. And a misting station will be set up on the grounds. Food vendors will be in the park to offer refreshments. Audience members are advised to bring a chair or blanket, sunscreen and insect repellent.
