TERRE HAUTE —
The Boot City Opry will open its sixth season with the first of 33 Saturday evening live music shows on April 14.
Again this year, the Opry staff has made a concentrated effort to bring together a list of exciting shows. Returning with crowd pleasing acts will be Lloyd Wood, Rocking Terry Lee, and The Neverly Brothers.
Jason Petty, the man that played Hank Williams at the Ryman Auditorium, will present a total of three different shows throughout the year. Young entertainer Robert Shaw, who performed in the Million Dollar Quartet at the Apollo Theater, will perform his Heartbreak Hotel show.
Additionally, nationally touring acts The Van-Dells and The Marlin’s will do repeat engagements. Top Branson showman Doug Gabriel and his family will return with their popular show.
Shows new to the Opry this year include Scott Haggard (Merle Haggard’s son), The Ragtops, TJ Thomas and Kentucky Strait, Manhattan Dolls, Terry Lynn Barton and RFD-TV’s Maggie Mae.

Evening of Music and Chocolate scheduled for next weekend
The ninth annual Evening of Music and Chocolate will begin at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 in Central Christian Church at 4950 E. Wabash Ave. The featured artist will be Patti Plascak Willey of the Academy of Dance.

Harry Gee, a professor emeritus of music at Indiana State University, will perform his own works for saxophone and clarinet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Westminster Village. The recital is free and open to the public.

Terre Haute Community Band heads for ‘the Great Divide’
The Terre Haute Community Band will present “Across the Great Divide” at 8 p.m. Saturday in Fairbanks Park. Guest conductor Steve Humphrey will lead the band in the concert, which explores the idea of going beyond the traditional and ordinary to explore new paths and challenges. Admission is free.

The Air National Guard Band of the Great Lakes, also known as the “Triple Nickel Band,” will perform a free concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in Fairbanks Park. The 2012 summer concert tour is the last major tour for the band as it is scheduled for de-activation in September 2013.
