TH drummer receives endorsement agreement with Saluda Cymbals

TERRE HAUTE — Jimbo Alonso, drummer for the Terre Haute-based Ken Tucker Band, has signed an an endorsement agreement with Saluda Cymbals.

The 44-year-old Alonso grew up in the Bronx and studied drums at the Long Island Drum Academy, starting when he was 14.

Alonso loves playing every type of music. “In the beginning, I only wanted to play metal and be [KISS drummer] Peter Criss,” he said. “Working for almost every type of drummer opened my eyes to so many things. I learned that it was silly to only be a one genre drummer when there are so many awesome styles out there. You don’t have to limit yourself. You can mix and match any style or genre of drumming and create your own thing!”

Saluda Cymbals began in 1997 with ideas to offer drummers something unique and a little different from the norm. The company was formed in 1999, and is based in Columbia, S.C.

Saluda Cymbals are unique in that each cymbal is purely hand crafted, which adds full, rich and crisp tones.

“I am proud to be a Saluda Representative for a few reasons,” Alonso said. “First, the cymbals themselves are amazing. They not only sound great but seem to put a great feel into the music. Kind of like they are an instrument in and of themselves.

“I also love the fact that unlike most cymbal companies, they don’t just make a bunch of cymbals and send them out to the stores. When you want one, they make it for you specifically. You tell them how you want it to sound and that’s what you get.”

Alonso’s setup includes 14-inch Nemesis Hi Hats, a 20-inch Nemesis Ride, 17- and 18-inch Tesla Crashes and an 1- inch Mist X Crash/Ride.

“I also love being endorsed because of the prestige and status it adds to my career,” Alonso said. “Being endorsed carries weight in saying that I am a good enough drummer for a company to allow me to use their name.”

Alonso is the third member of the The Ken Tucker Band to receive an endorsement agreement with an Instrument company. Both Ken Tucker and bass player JD Blue, have endorsement agreements with Tradition Guitars. Ken Tucker also has an agreement with Adams Amplifiers.

The Ken Tucker Band is managed by B3 Entertainment Consultants.
