Chase away the winter blues without boarding a plane to New Orleans. Celebrate Mardi Gras at the Swope Art Museum from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday.
A ticket ($25 for members, $30 for others) ensures fun, festivities and frolicking on the third floor of the museum building at 25 S. Seventh St.
Party-goers will receive complimentary carnival beads and masks and dance to music provided by D.J. Apollo. Cajun and Creole food from J. Gumbo’s, as well as “hurricanes” and other Big Easy treats and libations from the cash bar, will delight the palate and the soul.
Also on hand will be fortune tellers, a commemorative photo booth, courtesy of The Roxy Studio, and a fantastical Mardi Gras-inspired hair show from Medusa’s Hair Salon. Following tradition, attendees will elect the king and queen of Mardi Gras before the night is through.
The annual Swope Mardi Gras is organized by the Art Hoppers, a group of young professionals dedicated to supporting the museum. Tickets are available in advance at the museum, from any Swope Board member or an Art Hopper. A limited number of tickets may be available at the door Saturday. Mardi Gras is one of many events and programs the Swope offers to residents of the Wabash Valley. This year, the museum marks 70 years of bringing the finest examples of American art and related educational programs to residents of Terre Haute, the Wabash Valley and visitors nationwide. The Swope Art Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Will Cook for Tips: 100 Men Who Cook helping Children’s Museum through online fundraising
On March 23, 100 local male celebrities will prepare and share their favorite recipes during the “100 Men Who Cook” event, and they will be competing for tips to benefit the Terre Haute Children’s Museum at 727 Wabash Ave. But, this year, even those who are unable to attend the event can show their support for their favorite chefs and the museum by putting tips in an online tip jar.
