TERRE HAUTE —
In September 2010, the Terre Haute Children’s Museum opened to rave reviews, and since then, it has welcomed more than 125,000 guests. But, before the museum’s doors could be opened, many people helped “build it now — for the kids” by sponsoring a brick to honor their children, family members, coaches and friends. Now, these museum supporters can pinpoint the exact location of their bricks with the museum’s new online Brick Finder.
To use the new system, visit www.thchildrensmuseum.com/brickfinder and use the Search function to locate bricks by searching for the text that was placed on the brick or the name of the person who purchased the brick. The Brick Finder will then show where the brick is located on the outside walls of the Children’s Museum. There also is a Browse button, which can be used to see all the bricks in each section. The Brick Finder site was created by Andy Kruth, who graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 2011 with a degree in software engineering and computer science.
If you have not yet purchased a brick, or if you would like to sponsor another brick, you also can do that by visiting the Brick Finder site. The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)3 organization, and the museum’s operating funds are generated by private contributions and earned income. By sponsoring a brick, you will help the museum raise much-needed funding for educational programs and hands-on exhibits, and your brick sponsorship is considered a fully tax-deductible donation.
Kids’ bricks, for children 18 and younger, are $79 and hold one line of up to 16 characters. These bricks are located near the field trip entrance on the Ohio Street side of the museum. Bricks that hold two lines of up to 16 characters each are $199. The limestone blocks hold four lines of up to 16 characters each and are $1,000. The two-line bricks and 12-by-12 limestone blocks are located on the Eighth Street side of the building. Those who are purchasing a two-line brick or limestone to honor an educator can also choose to have their bricks placed in a special section called the Educators’ Corner.
