Paris Bicentennial Art Center honors artists with Fall Show awards

The Bicentennial Art Center in Paris, Ill., honored several artists Oct. 12 during the opening reception for its 58th Annual Fall Juried Exhibition.

The fall show was open to all artists 18 and older residing within a 100-mile radius of Paris. There were 94 entries brought in by 39 different artists. The judge for the exhibit, Nancy Nichols-Pethick, assistant professor of painting at Indiana State University, chose 75 pieces for the show and gave the following awards.  

Judge’s Choice Award: Kari Rajkumar, Paris, “Tom ‘Bear,’” pastel; Five Merit Awards: Jan Kappes, Charleston, Ill., “Ancient Cultivation Disk in Red,” ink; Petra Nyendick, Terre Haute, “Climata,” mixed on plexiglass; J. Anna Roberts, Brownsburg, “Alias,” watercolor; Jeff Boshart, Charleston, “Two Vise,” vise/stone; and Kit Fisher, Clinton, “Mixed Bell Peppers,” oil.

The judge also gave six Honorable Mention Awards to: John Gabb, Effingham, Ill., “Hoo Doo,” pastel; Cathie White, Casey, Ill., “Chilly Peppers,” watercolor; James K. Johnson, Charleston, “China Ranch,” silk screen print; Jacqui Worden, Charleston, “Estuary Sunrise,” fabric mixed media; Kari Rajkumar, “Scott,” graphite; and Karen Reed, Charleston, “Memory of Water,” ceramic.
