The Terre Haute Children’s Museum has some special activities planned to help keep your kids entertained during the Vigo County School Corp. Fall Break Oct. 12-15.
On Friday, Oct. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m., museum guests can learn all about blood during our Family Friday event, sponsored by UAP Clinic. Museum guests will learn about the different types of cells in their blood, and kids can participate in a blood flow activity so they can see how blood moves through the heart. The Family Friday activity is free with museum admission. The museum will be open on Friday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
On Saturday, Oct. 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the museum will partner with the Indiana State University Center for Mathematics Education to kick off the fall 2012 edition of the "Go Figure" program. The unique, five-week math program is designed for third, fourth and fifth grade students, and during this year’s program, titled “Decision 2012,” participants will see how math relates to the elections. The cost to attend all five “Go Figure” sessions is $40 for members of the Terre Haute Children's Museum and $50 for non-members. Class size is limited. Also on Saturday, from 1 to 3 p.m., the Indiana State University student chapters of the American Chemical Society and Tri-Beta will visit the museum to teach students about science relating to Bones, Bodies and Brains. Guests will get to see a variety of anatomical models and they’ll get to look under a microscope to take a look at slides taken from human tissues. The activities are free with museum admission. The museum will be open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, Oct. 14, the museum will be open from noon to 5 p.m., and while the museum is typically closed on Mondays, on Monday, Oct. 15, the museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On both days, museum guests can learn more about their bodies during a fun scavenger hunt. It’s Bones, Bodies and Brains month at the Museum, and kids can earn a prize by finding fun facts scattered around the building.
The Terre Haute Children's Museum is located at the corner of Eighth Street and Wabash Avenue in downtown Terre Haute. Admission is $7 for ages 2 and older and adults. Children under age 2 and members of the museum are admitted for free.
