VIDEO: Hoosier Veterans History Project celebrates 10,000 interviews

As we honor Veterans Day, Sen. Richard G. Lugar is proud to announce more than 10,000 Hoosier Veterans History Project interviews have been archived at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.

"From the Civil War to the present day, Indiana has always been well represented in the ranks of Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen. Today, Indiana is home to more than 500,000 living veterans, or about 8 percent of the state’s population of 6.4 million," Lugar, the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said.

"But this Veterans Day I suggest it is worth noting that there is something especially remarkable about the current generation of men and women serving in the armed forces. Each and every one of them wears the uniform because they have volunteered for military service, and they did so knowing full well there was a good chance of being deployed to a dangerous combat zone during their tour of duty.

"If our military continues to attract high quality people in the same numbers as are currently serving, it will be up to the task. By continuing to recruit and retain the many remarkable Americans with a desire to serve, we can rest assured that our military will always be able to protect our nation," said Lugar, who served as an intelligence briefer in the U.S. Navy.

In this video, Lugar discusses this great accomplishment and invites more Hoosier veterans to participate in the program.
