TERRE HAUTE — Syndicated editorial cartoonist Gary Varvel served as the featured speaker at Honey Creek Middle School's annual Writers Fair on Tuesday. During three sessions with students in the school's auditorium, Varvel described his career path, explained some of his most memorable editorial cartoons and drew a few familiar faces for the kids. Seventh-grade English teacher Teri Bennett served as emcee for Varvel's presentations.
His cartoons appear in more than 60 newspapers around the country, including his home paper the Indianapolis Star and the Terre Haute Tribune-Star.
