TERRE HAUTE —
The Indiana State Museum, in collaboration with the Allen County Public Library, have a nationally significant collection of material related to Abraham Lincoln and his times. Started in 1928 by Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, the collection grew to become one of the world’s largest privately held collections of Lincoln-related material. The collection includes documents signed by Lincoln, including copies of the Emancipation Proclamation; objects that belonged to his family; artwork; rare books; and photographs. Now the Indiana State Museum and the Allen County Public Library own the collection and sought to have a new website created to make the collection available to users throughout the world.
Williams Randall will create a website that will be a primary resource for research on Lincoln as well as a place for the casual enthusiast to learn about and discover the life and times of Lincoln. The site will have content for many different audiences, from students and teachers to seasoned historians. For most people in the world who cannot visit the collection in person, this Williams Randall-created website will provide opportunity to access this historically significant collection. The site will have a powerful search component and engaging content so that visitors can easily find all the areas of interest to them. It is expected to launch in October.
