n Rose men receiving votes — The Rose-Hulman men’s team continues to receive votes in the d3hoops.com national weekly poll after a 10-1 start to the season.

Rose ranks second among the “others receiving votes” outside of the national top 25 in the current weekly poll with 53 points. The Engineers are also the only Indiana school to receive votes in the d3hoops.com men’s basketball national poll.

Rose-Hulman stands 10-1 for the season after defeating DePauw 52-39 in its most recent game Monday. The Engineers also rank No. 1 nationally in the weekly NCAA Division III rankings in defense, allowing just 47.2 points per game.

Defense has been Rose’s calling card this season, as the Engineers have held six opponents to 45 points or less and three opponents to under 40 points in a game.

Offensively, junior Julian Strickland leads the team in scoring at 15.3 points per game, with senior Austin Weatherford also in double figures at 11.1. The starting lineup also includes senior Brenton Balsbaugh (7.9), Jon Gerken (7.8) and James Pillischafske (4.4).

The team’s 10-1 record marks the best start to an Engineer men’s season since the 1990-91 campaign. The Engineers also are on the cusp of earning a top-25 national ranking for the first time since the 1999 season.

Rose-Hulman returns to action at home against Earlham at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 2.

n Munn honored — Indiana State junior Anna Munn picked up her second weekly award following her career high 25-point scoring effort at Tennessee-Martin last Sunday, earning the Missouri Valley Conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week selection as announced by the league office Wednesday.

Munn also was named the MVC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, as her 25 points led ISU to a 73-71 overtime victory at UT-Martin on Sunday.

The Indianapolis native and Decatur Central High School product went 8 for 21 from the field with three shots from beyond the arc against the Skyhawks. Munn entered this week leading the MVC and ranking 14th in the NCAA by averaging 3.1 3-pointers made per game. She scored seven of her 25 points in OT against UTM, making a pair of shots and three free throws to send the Sycamores to the victory.

On Tuesday against Chicago State, Munn went into double figures with 11 points, extending her streak to 10 consecutive games with at least 10 points to start this season. She is the first Sycamore to start a season with 10 straight double-digit scoring games since Melanie Boeglin in 2005-06. That season, Boeglin posted at least 10 points in the first 16 games of the season.

Munn was a Second-Team Academic All-MVC selection following her sophomore season and currently holds a 3.74 grade-point average while majoring in exercise science.

As a team, the Sycamores won their sixth consecutive game Tuesday, topping the Cougars 69-35. The win improved Indiana State to 8-2 overall and 6-0 inside Hulman Center, making the Sycamores one of just 15 teams from around the nation to stand unbeaten on its home court with after at least six games played.

ISU closes out nonconference play Saturday with a trip to Indianapolis to face in-state rival Butler. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. inside Hinkle Fieldhouse and will follow the Butler men’s basketball team’s game against Evansville at 2 p.m.
