METRO ROUNDUP: South to celebrate Cam Cameron’s career

TERRE HAUTE — It’s Cam Cameron Day at Terre Haute South High School today, when the 1979 South graduate and current offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens will be honored both during the school day and at the varsity basketball game against Rockville.

Cameron played both football and basketball at Indiana University after a high school career during which he was an outstanding quarterback in football and started on three Final Four basketball teams, earning Trester Award and Indiana All-Star recognition as a senior.

He will be honored at an assembly during the school day and at halftime of the basketball game, during which his jersey will be retired.



In other basketball news:

• Regional finals set — Championship games in Illinois regional boys basketball tournaments will be played tonight with the winners advancing to sectionals next week.

In Class 2A, Marshall and Paris will meet in the final game at Paris. Marshall defeated Georgetown-Ridge Farm 91-44 and Paris bested Bismarck-Henning 41-34 in Wednesday's semifinals. Zach Henn led Paris with 16 points.

Players advancing in the 3-point competition were Jake Tucker and Nolan Schaefer of Marshall and Robert Hodgson and Cory Cunningham of Paris.

Robinson and Flora will vie for the Class 2A championship at Flora. Flora defeated Olney 49-40 to advance with Paul Knapp scoring 35 points for the Wolves; Teutopolis and Effingham St. Anthony will be in the finals at Shelbyville.

Winners from Shelbyville, Paris and Flora will meet in the sectional at Effingham St. Anthony.

In Class 1A, Red Hill and Edwards County will meet in the championship at Edwards County. Chrisman and Catlin vie for the title at Chrisman.



• Young Warriors win — At Mattoon, Ill., the Casey boys won the recent Matton Freshman Tourney.



Casey 57 (Trivette Scales 21, Ryan McHenry 13, Landry Huisanga 13), Teutopolis 40; Casey 60 (Michael Chism 17, Matt McCown 17), Mattoon 39, championship.



• Middle schools — The following middle school girls results were reported.



Eighth grade — Honey Creek 34 (Emily Cottom 17, Kylie Fendrick 11), Woodrow Wilson 27 (Kathryn Ruark 11).

Seventh grade — Otter Creek 34 (Sabrina Frazier 8), Chauncey Rose 6 (Chelsea Miller 6).
