MECCA — North Central running back Chase VanSchoyck broke the Indiana High School Athletic Association rushing record with a 511-yard performance as the Thunderbirds defeated host Riverton Parke 67-0 in football Friday.
VanSchoyck broke the previous record of 489 yards set by Indianapolis Cathedral’s Otis Shannon in 1999. He had 460 of his yards at halftime in the Thunderbirds’ victory. He took part in only three plays in the second half.
VanSchoyck scored seven touchdowns (14, 96, 4, 73, 1, 63, 38 yards) as North Central improved to 6-1 for the season.
The Class A No. 10-ranked Thunderbirds will return to Southwest Seven Conference action next Friday as it hosts Wood Memorial.
Riverton Parke (0-7) plays at Rockville next Friday.

• Sullivan 56, Brown County 6 — At Sullivan, Senior Payne Fortner set a Sullivan High School record by passing for 430 yards to lead the host Golden Arrows over Brown County in Western Indiana Conference action.
Fortner completed 22 of 30 attempts, including six touchdowns that went to Jake Kinnaman (two), Zach Willis (two), Mike Hutchcraft and Brooks Weszley, who had the longest TD reception of 77 yards.
Sullivan’s Nick Byrd also scored on a 3-yard run and Mike Willis fired a 30-yard TD strike to Matt Siner.
Sullivan (5-2 overall, 4-0 WIC) will try to stay in first place in the conference next Friday when it plays host to South Vermillion.
• Northview 54, South Vermillion 6 — At Brazil, the host Knights piled up the points in posting another Western Indiana Conference victory.
Northview (3-4 overall, 3-1 WIC) will visit West Vigo next Friday, while South Vermillion (2-5, 1-3) will travel to Sullivan that same night.
• Class A No. 3 Linton 64, North Knox 0 — At Linton, the host Miners blanked North Knox to improve their records to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southwest Seven Conference.
Linton will visit Union next Friday, while North Knox (3-4, 3-2) will play host to North Daviess that same night.
• Eastern Greene 67, Union 20 — At Solsberry, the visiting Bulldogs took it on the chin in Southwest Seven Conference action.
