Indiana State men’s basketball player David Moss is one of 64 seniors nationally competing in front of around 200 representatives of National Basketball Association teams this week in the 54th Portsmouth Invitational Tournament.
The invitees are divided into eight teams of eight players with action continuing Friday, culminating in the third-place and championship games on Saturday.
Moss is playing for the Tidewater Sealants team, which dropped both of its early round games on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday, Norfolk Naval Shipyard topped Tidewater team 84-75. Moss was a starter, scoring seven points (3 of 9 shooting, 1 of 3 in 3-point accuracy) with three rebounds in 27 minutes.
On Thursday, Beach Barton Ford outscored Tidewater 101-93, Moss tallying only four points (2 of 7 field goals, 0 of 2 3-pointers) with no rebounds in a relief role of 22 minutes.
Other Missouri Valley Conference players competing in this event include Paul Miller (Wichita State), Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa) and Marcellus Sommerville (Bradley).

n Top seniors tabbed — Players from the area and Indiana State recruits are on the list of the 100 top senior boys high school basketball players.
The list was compiled by Hoosier Basketball Magazine.
Included are Chase Haltom of Cloverdale, Steven Jeffers of Terre Haute North, Harry Marshall of Owen Valley, Jared Rehmel of Shakamak, and ISU recruits Cole Holmstrom of Bloomington South and Norman Wells of Madison.
Soccer
n ISU women return home — The Indiana State women’s team will make its home debut in spring exhibition play when the Sycamores face Valparaiso and the Evansville Elite club team today.
Three games will be played at Sycamore Field with Indiana State (2-2-1) taking the field first vs. Valparaiso at noon, followed by the Crusaders facing off against Evansville Elite at 2 p.m., followed by the Sycamores against Evansville Elite at 3:30.
Tennis
n Galparoli honored — Indiana State’s Sarah Galparoli was named the Missouri Valley Conference women’s player of the week on Tuesday. It was Galparoli’s first conference award this year and first of her career.
Galparoli went undefeated over the weekend as the Sycamores began MVC play. Her play against Illinois State clinched the win for Indiana State and preserved its perfect 6-0 record at home.
Softball
n Woods sweeps, split — St. Mary-of-the-Woods swept a doubleheader Tuesday against Kentucky Wesleyan, and Wednesday split with Danville Area Community College.
The Pomeroys won 5-1 and 7-5 against Kentucky Wesleyan. SMWC lost to Danville 5-0 before picking up a 5-1 win.
Jocelyn Long (4-8) picked up the win in the first game against Kentucky Wesleyan, adding an RBI while going 1 for 2 at the plate. Brittni Cox had two hits and scored a run. Jen Phegley was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Alicia Mosier was the winner in the nightcap. Leading the Pomeroys’ offense was Allison Tomey’s 3 for 3 day with two RBI and a double. Barb Cekander was also perfect (2 for 2) with a home run and three RBI. Erica Ketner went 2 for 3 with a double and two runs, and Jen Phegley was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Against Danville, Mosier (7-3) picked up another win in the 5-1 victory. Long went 2 for 3 with two RBI, and Tomey was 2 for 3 with two runs. In the 5-0 loss, Amanda Daniel and Erica Ketner each collected two hits.
The Pomeroys are now 16-15 on the season.
