Rex suffer another frustrating loss against Cavemen

Hannibal, Mo. — Despite getting the potential tying and lead runs on base with none out in the top of the ninth inning, the Terre Haute Rex suffered another frustrating loss Thursday night on the road against the Hannibal Cavemen by a 2-1 score.

Alex Guthrie and Alex DeLeon led off the ninth inning with back-to-back walks and were bunted to second and third by Joe Meggs. But Guthrie was thrown out at the plate on Ray Hernandez’s grounder for the second out, and pinch-hitter Chad Reeves struck out to end the game.

Hannibal scored in each of the first two innings but then was held in check by Austin Haynal.

The visitors cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the eighth when Kyle Burnam tripled and came home on a sacrifice fly by Nolan Earley, and Brandon Dorsett pitched a scoreless inning in the bottom of the eighth.

The Rex had just five hits for the game, three by Meggs.
