TERRE HAUTE —
Host Honey Creek swept a pair of games over Otter Creek and Sarah Scott and Woodrow Wilson came up with a split at Chauncey Rose on Monday as Vigo County eighth-grade basketball tournaments began.
The Bees won the girls game 40-12 over the Otters as Ali Danielson scored 15 points for the winners and Krislyn Williams had eight for Otter Creek.
In the boys game there, Gregory Stultz had 10 points for Honey Creek in a 37-27 victory, with Evan Benko scoring nine for Otter Creek.
In the girls game at Chauncey Rose, Sarah Scott outscored Woodrow Wilson 9-1 in the three-minute extra period to emerge with a 35-27 win. DeZhane Carter had 19 points for the Scotties while Torri Brewer and Lauren Perrelle scored eight each for the Warriors.
Woodrow Wilson came back to achieve a 41-19 win in the boys game, with Kobie Riley leading all scorers with 12 points. Kameron Bell and Keshaun Sandifer had eight points each for Sarah Scott.
Doubleheaders today find West Vigo’s teams playing at Honey Creek and the Chauncey Rose teams hosting the Sarah Scott girls and the Woodrow Wilson boys. Girls games at each site begin at 5:15 p.m.
Championship games are 6 p.m. Thursday at Terre Haute North.

• Coleman earns weekly honor — Rose-Hulman’s Sutton Coleman has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week for his efforts at the Friday Night Invitational on Jan. 21.
Coleman captured two individual titles and helped one relay team earn a victory in the meet.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Coleman ran a time of 8.29 seconds that ranks in the top five nationally in NCAA Division III to capture top honors. He also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.92 seconds.
In relay action, Coleman helped the 4x400 team end the meet with a victory in a time of 3:27.71. Rose-Hulman took first place as a team in the six-team event.
Rose-Hulman returns to action at the Engineer Invitational this Saturday, featuring 12 institutions from seven states.
