MARTINSVILLE, ILL. —
A state season-best time in Illinois fair harness racing was recorded Wednesday at the Martinsville Agricultural Fair.
Sherry’s Band, trained and driven by Freddie Patton Jr., won the third race on the card for 2-year-old filly trotters in the time of 2 minutes, 6 seconds.
That’s the best time for an Illinois-bred filly trotter in the state this season.
High Stepper was second in the race, losing for the first time in four starts.
Patton had another winner in the competition, driving 2-year-old pacer Kittitas to its fourth straight victory and fifth in six starts in 2:01.
Kelcey Perymond was in the bike for three winners.
His first came with 2-year-old colt trotter Zanny, winning for the second time.
His next was with 2-year-old filly pacer BC’s Southern Bell, owned by local horsemen and winning for the second time in four starts.
Perymond’s third victory came with 2-year-old filly pacer Party Princess, winning for the third time in six starts.
Veteran horseman J.D. Finn had two winners, the first with 2-year-old trotter Southwind Diva in the first race, winning for the second time in three starts.
His other winner was with 2-year-old colt trotter Balanced Game, winning for the second time in four starts.
Harness racing concludes today with the Great Midwest Trot and Great Midwest Pace on the card. Post time is 1 p.m. CDT.
