Carmel is No. 1 in the rankings. Teams will have their first matches next week.

• Goddard second at Pro-Am — At Santa Claus, Idle Creek professional Ray Goddard shot an even-par 72 to finish second in the Pro Division of the Tri-State Tournament played at Christmas Lake Golf Club on Monday.
Darret Brinker of Evansville won with a score of 67.
Volleyball
• ISU completes roster — Second-year Indiana State head volleyball coach Traci Dahl has completed her roster for the 2009 season with the announcement that Aralena Haynes has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Sycamores starting this fall.
“Aralena will bring some great experience to our team this year,” Dahl said. “She is a very athletic player and her competitiveness will be contagious.”
Haynes, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter from Douglasville, Ga., played four years at Lithia Springs High School where she holds the school record for all-time kills (520) and all-time kill percentage (.530). A two-time Douglas County Player of the Year, Haynes was twice named the team’s Most Valuable Player and twice named to the AAAA Regional first team.
“I am pleased that she has decided to join the ISU volleyball team and continue her education here,” Dahl said. “She is going to be a great asset to the program and I expect great things from her.”
Haynes also competed for the Atlanta Boom volleyball club. She plans to major in pre-med/mathematics at Indiana State with plans to enter medical school.
Auto racing
• Coons, Bacon win — Jerry Coons Jr. and Brady Bacon were winners in U. S. Auto Club midget racing in Nebraska.
At Rising City, Coons led all the way to win the 30-lap feature on Monday at Butler County Motorplex. Bryan Clauson won his heat and took second.
At McCool Junction, Bacon led the final seven turns to win the 25-lap main Tuesday. Brad Loyet won his heat and took second after leading the first 18 laps.
J. J. Yeley won a feature in Missouri on Sunday.
Racing continued Wednesday with the races leading up to the Belleville Midget Nationals this weekend.
