Terre Haute Rex drop series finale at Dubois County, 3-2

HUNTINGBURG — The Dubois County Bombers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come from behind and defeat the visiting Terre Haute Rex 3-2 in a Prospect League baseball game at League Stadium on Sunday.

The Rex took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Nolan Earley was hit by a pitch, and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex DeLeon. In the third, the Rex went up 2-0, as Kyle Burnam doubled and scored on an error.

Rex starting pitcher Michael Hachadorian allowed a run in the bottom of third inning, but that was the only run he allowed in seven innings.

In the Dubois County eighth inning, Rex reliever Tyler Browning retired the first two batters. But a walk, single and a hit batsman loaded the bases, then two runs scored on a single. Ryne Purcell came in to record the final out.

Bombers’ closer Ben Bullard retired the Rex 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth inning, the last two by strikeout, to earn the save.

Burnam and Jared Broughton were both 3 for 4 to lead the Rex offense.

The Rex (14-15) are idle the next three days for the All-Star break. Their next game is a home contest vs. the Richmond RiverRats at Bob Warn Field at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday.
