TERRE HAUTE —
A pair of former Indiana State pitchers/teammates — also teammates at the pro level at various times with the Chicago White Sox organization — came off the disabled list this week, with mixed reviews.
Brian Omogrosso made his first appearance of the 2010 season, throwing a scoreless inning in a rehab assignment for the Bristol White Sox on Wednesday. He allowed no hits, walked two and fanned one batter, pitching the seventh inning vs. Bluefield in a 5-1 victory.
Omogrosso had been sidelined since midseason last year, recovering from shoulder surgery. He advanced as high as Charlotte (AAA) last year.
Matt Zaleski returned from a much shorter stint on the disabled list with Charlotte, being placed on the DL on Aug. 13, last pitching on Aug. 11.
Making his first relief appearance of the season after 24 starts, he was touched for six runs without retiring a batter at Gwinnett on Tuesday. His pitching line indicated zero innings, four hits, six runs (all earned) and two walks.
To add insult to injury, it was also his first blown save of the season. With the loss, he dropped to 7-8 on the season.
Former ISU outfielder Brady Shoemaker was placed on the suspended list by the Kannapolis Intimidators on Aug. 20. He has not played since Aug. 17.
