METRO ROUNDUP: ISU’s Beisser honored with good neighbor award

TERRE HAUTE — Softball pitcher Lindsey Beisser has been named Indiana State’s spring representative for the Missouri Valley Conference State Farm Good Neighbor Award.

Honorees must be in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship through sportsmanship and community service and participate in a sport during the season of recognition.

Beisser, a recent graduate in psychology, was a second-team all-MVC player this spring, was conference Pitcher of the Week twice and has been on the athletic director’s honor roll three times. She has also been a volunteer at community events including Special Olympics, Ryves Hall, Catholic Charities, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Toys for Tots, Take Back the Night, Terre Haute Boys & Girls Club, Lighthouse Mission and Casey Crafts.

Baseball

• Junior Rex go 1-3 — At Indianapolis, the Terre Haute Junior Rex won one of four games last weekend at the Indiana Nitro Tourney.



Junior Rex 8, Indiana Dirtbags 0 — Nathan Higbie and Reid Brown combined for a two-hitter, Mitchell Howald and Jase Glassburn were both 2 for 3 and Chris Latta, Kavan Crowell, Higbie and Glassburn had RBIs in a first-inning rally.

Indiana Outlaws 9, Junior Rex 1 — Reid Brown was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Summit City Sluggers 11, Junior Rex 1 — Mitchell Howald and Wiley Clinkenbeard had singles.

Indiana Outlaws 8, Junior Rex 7 — Three scorless innings of relief by Levi Dowden kept the Rex close until a five-run final inning gave them a temporary lead. Wiley Clinkenbeard had a triple and Hendrix, Glassburn, Latta and Grant Dennany had RBI singles.

Next — The Junior Rex (10-4) play at Center Grove during Memorial Day weekend.
