Metro Roundup: ISU track’s Hutson adds another honor to her standout career

Pole vaulter named Great Lakes Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year

TERRE HAUTE — Indiana State senior Kylie Hutson (Terre Haute, Ind.) added another honor to her illustrious career as she was named the Great Lakes Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

“Kylie has had a great season,” John Gartland, ISU women’s track & field coach, said. “She has been extremely consistent and improved greatly this season. She has beaten every good vaulter she has come up against this season. It was just a no brainer for the region coaches to vote for her.”

The selection was made following a vote of coaches representing the schools that comprise the Great Lakes Region which include schools from the Missouri Valley, Big 10, Big East, Mid-American, Atlantic 10, Horizon League, and The Summit League. It is based on the individual’s performance during the current Indoor season.

Hutson has been rewriting the ISU and MVC record books since the first meet of the indoor season. The three-time All-American and reigning NCAA Indoor and Outdoor champion in the women’s pole vault, closed out the regular portion of the indoor season by winning her fourth straight Missouri Valley Conference title.

Her height of 14 feet, 8.25 inches (4.48 meters) established the current ISU and MVC all-time record and is the fourth best height all-time in collegiate history as she became the fifth best performer all-time in collegiate history.
