METRO ROUNDUP: Bloomington runners win Run Through the Jungle 5K

CENTER POINT — Kevin Murphy, an Indiana University student from Bloomington, was the overall winner of the eighth annual Run Through The Jungle 5K at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point on Saturday.

His winning time was 17 minutes, 0.71 seconds.

The first-place female was Sarah Keil, also from Bloomington. Masters winners were Paul Clapp of Terre Haute and Karen Norrie of San Jose, Calif. First-place walker was Shirley Fearheiley of Harrisburg, Ill., and first male walker was Tony Trinca of South Bend.

The event included 534 runners and walkers from eight states, an increase of more than 200 over last year’s record turnout. The race raised over $7,000 for the care and feeding of more than 200 felines that reside at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center.

Auto racing

n Crawhorn prevails — At Bloomington Speedway, Darren Crawhorn was one of the feature winners in racing Friday.

Crawhorn won his heat and took first in the main event for bombers. Other feature winners were Richie Lex in UMP modifieds, Troy Clark for super stocks and Justin Patterson in hornets.

The Larry Rice Classic for U.S. Auto Club sprint cars is slated this week.
