TERRE HAUTE — Rashad Reed and Taylor Whitley will be recognized today by the Exchange Club of Terre Haute as the Sycamore Athletes of the Week.
Reed averaged 14 points, six rebounds and 33.5 minutes per game for the men’s team last week. The 6-foot-1 senior scored 14 points in the home victory over Illinois State and added 14 more as the short-handed Sycamores closed out the week by nearly downing second-place Wichita State.
Whitley led the Lady Sycamores with 17 points at Illinois State on Saturday, as the freshman guard connected on 6 of 7 shots from the free throw line and added career bests in assists (5) and steals (4) over 31 minutes of action. The Geneva, Ill., native is ISU’s leading scorer through 10 Missouri Valley Conference games with 10.2 points per contest.
ISU’s men take a 14-10 overall record and 6-7 MVC mark into tonight’s game at Creighton before hosting Drake at 2:05 p.m. Saturday on Athletic Hall of Fame Day at the Hulman Center. The women’s team, 11-10 overall and 2-8 in MVC, plays twice at home this weekend, 7 p.m. Friday against Missouri State in the Sycamore Hoopla Weekend and 2 p.m. Sunday against Wichita State — the team’s Pink Out Day to support the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure against breast cancer.

• Dickerson honored — Rose-Hulman sophomore Alisa Dickerson has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in matchups with Manchester and St. Mary-of-the-Woods last week.
Dickerson averaged 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game. She poured in a career-high 26 points with 11 rebounds and eight assists in a 78-71 loss to St. Mary-of-the-Woods in the Clabber Girl Trophy Game on Wednesday.
Against Manchester, Dickerson scored 16 points with five rebounds and five assists. Her efforts included the final points of the game on a score in the lane with 20 seconds left to lift Rose-Hulman over the Spartans 56-55. Rose-Hulman is 3-18 overall and hosts Anderson on Wednesday in the last women’s home game of the year.
• Sycamore promotions — With a combined seven home games remaining in the 2009-2010 season for Indiana State men’s and women’s basketball teams, the athletics department has announced a series of promotions and events for each of the remaining games this season.
The men’s team has a 2:05 p.m. home game Saturday against Drake, a 7:05 p.m. home game Feb. 16 against Bradley and a 2:05 p.m. home game Feb. 27 against Missouri State. Women’s home games are 7 p.m. Friday against Missouri State, 2 p.m. Sunday against Wichita State, 7 p.m. Feb. 26 against Northern Iowa and 2 p.m. Feb. 28 against Bradley.

Saturday — Sycamore Hoopla Weekend and Old National Bank Athletics Hall of Fame Induction; also Samaritan’s Feet Day, during which coach Kevin McKenna will be without shoes on the sidelines and fans are invited to bring a pair of shoes to donate.
Feb. 16 — Beach Night. Fans are invited to wear beach attire, and author Mike Lunsford will sign “Sidelines: the Best of the Basketball Stories” on the upper concourse.
Feb. 27 — Servpro Fan Appreciation Day, with free tickets available at the Hulman Center Ticket Office; Hardee’s Sock Drive, in which pairs of socks are requested to help Vigo County school-age children; also Senior Day honoring Josh Crawford, Harry Marshall and Rashad Reed.

Friday — Sycamore Hoopla Weekend; also Terre Haute South Rotary Club food drive, non-perishable food items requested.
