Prep Roundup: Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference announces its winter all-sports teams

The Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference has announced its winter all-sports teams for the 2007-08 high school season.

Included are basketball players Jake Odum and Tessa Johnson of Terre Haute South.

• Lawrence Central 18, Riverton Parke 0 — At Indianapolis, Riverton Parke went down early to Class 4A Lawrence Central as the host Bears scored nine in the first inning and never looked back in a game shortened by the 10-run rule in the fifth inning.

Riverton Parke (0-1) plays host to Shakamak on Saturday.



Monday

• Linton 9, South Knox 6 — At Linton, Jarrett Lannan hit a home run and also picked the win in relief as the Miners defeated the Spartans in a game originally scheduled to be played at South Knox on Monday.

The Miners were the road team in a home game as the game was moved from South Knox. Linton broke the game open with three runs in the third inning and never trailed again.

Cam Lancaster was 3-for-4 with five RBIs an Jeff Laughlin scored three runs for Linton.

Softball

• Paris 13, Hutsonville-Palestine 0 — At Hutsonville, Jana Akers threw a five inning no-hitter for the Tigers as they prevailed over Hutsonville-Palestine in a nonconference game.

Kali Fuqua hit a three-run home run and LeAnn Spesard had three hits in the victory as Paris improved to 4-1.
