Phoenix — Bennie Woodall was the winning pitcher, throwing six innings and Danny Robinson led the offense with four RBIs as Terre Haute Volkers Group won the Men’s Senior Baseball World Series on Saturday. The team won the championship game 14-4 against the Napa Valley (Calif.) Oaks.
The Volkers Group went 8-0 in the 60-plus tournament that began Monday.

Volleyball
• ISU falls to Shockers — At Wichita, Kan., Indiana State lost 30-12, 30-24, 30-15 at Wichita State in a Missouri Valley Conference match on Friday.
Stephanie Volden had six kills for the Sycamores while Whitney Fromm had 12 assists and Kristy Cox 10 digs.
The Sycamores fell to 3-15 on the season and 0-10 in the MVC and played Saturday at Missouri State.
• ISU falls 3-0 — The Indiana State volleyball team played a much better match than on Friday but the result was still the same. The Sycamores fell to the host Missouri State Bears 30-21, 30-24, 30-18 Saturday but played much better than the night before at Wichita State.
The Sycamores dropped their 12th straight match of the season in falling to 3-16 overall. They remain winless in the Missouri Valley Conference at 0-11. Indiana State will try to post that first win in conference play at home next weekend when they host Creighton on Friday and Drake on Saturday. Both matches start at 7 p.m.
Missouri State improves to 21-3 overall and 10-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Tennis
• ISU tennis season ends — At Ann Arbor, Mich., the Indiana State women’s tennis team is on their way home after a dismal performance during the second day of the ITA Midwest Regional on Saturday.
“We just did not show up to play in this tournament,” Malik Tabet Indiana State women’s tennis coach said. “We were not focused and we did not compete well. It was really strange.”
Seniors Jennifer Migan and Joanne Schickerling dropped their second doubles match of the season Saturday morning, falling to Kali Krisik and Colleen Rielley of Notre Dame 5-8 in the Round of 16 of the doubles Main Draw at the ITA Midwest Regional.
In singles, freshman Sarah Meghoufel met Notre Dame’s Kali Krisik in the opening round of the singles main draw and was defeated 6-3, 6-3.
Schickerling also lost her first round match in a three-set marathon to Iowa’s Milica Veselinovic, the ninth seeded player in the singles Main Draw. Schickerling won the first set in a tie breaker 7-6 (10-8) but then dropped the next two sets 4-6, 1-6.
Migan won her opening round match over Noriko Saruta of Western Michigan 6-2, 6-2 but then dropped her second round match 3-6, 4-6 to Katie Potts of Notre Dame.
“We have been working on things to improve our technique,” Tabet said. “I really thought that we would be ready to play. We are not where we need to be. We will come back and work hard on the techniques we need to get better for January.”
The ITA Midwest Regional completes the fall season for the ISU women. The Sycamores are now off until they begin their dual meet season in January.
• Rose women third in HCAC — At Indianapolis, the Rose-Hulman women’s team dropped a 5-4 decision to Franklin at the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Team Tournament on Saturday.
With the loss, the Engineers end the fall season with a 7-4 record and finished third in the HCAC standings.
Sophomore Sam Danesis led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and, with freshman Megan Chann, an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles.
The No. 3 doubles team of Betsy Marschand and Katy Zawadski added an 8-3 win, while freshman Caitlin Kohli won by a 6-1, 6-2 margin at No. 6 singles.
Manchester College went on to claim the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tournament with a 5-4 win over Franklin in the title match.
Soccer
• ISU women still winless on road — At Normal, Ill., Creighton scored a season high four goals to defeat the Indiana State women’s team at Morrison Stadium Friday night. The Sycamores (5-10-0, 0-3-0 MVC) remain winless on the road.
Creighton (7-6-1, 2-1-1 MVC) notched two goals in the first half and two goals in the second half to defeat the Sycamores for the ninth straight time. The Bluejays outshot ISU 23-3.
Indiana State looks to pick up their first conference victory when they travel to Northern Iowa today.
• Rose women still unbeaten in HCAC — The Rose-Hulman women’s team remained undefeated in HCAC play with a 5-0 victory at Jim Rendel Field on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Julie Roebel led the Engineer scoring attack with her second hat trick of the 2007 season to highlight Senior Day.
With the victory, Rose improves to 16-2 on the season and 6-0 in HCAC play. The Engineers will return to action on Tuesday when they host Franklin.
• Rose men win too — The Rose-Hulman men’s soccer squad defeated Bluffton 8-1 on Senior Day at Jim Rendel field on Saturday afternoon.
Senior Matt Trowbridge (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored his 19th and 20th goals of the season when he was successful on two penalty kicks in the 12th and 15th minutes.
The victory improved the Engineers to 10-6-1 on the season and 4-1-1 in HCAC and return to action hosting Franklin on Tuesday.
• Woods wins — At St. Catharine, Ky., Erin Pugh scored her fifth goal in teh past two games to lead Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to a 1-1 draw against Saint Catharine on Saturday.
Pugh, a Terre Haute North graduate, tallied her 12th goal of the season.
