METRO/PREP ROUNDUP: Marshall gets Georgetown; Casey ousts Cumberland

CASEY, ILL. — Georgetown-Ridge Farm earned a game against Marshall by defeating Paris 75-64 in the Illinois Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional on Monday.

Josh Cary had 22 points in a losing cause for the Tigers. The Buffaloes play the top-seeded Lions at 7:30 p.m. CST today.

Third-seeded Casey came from seven points behind at halftime to beat sixth-seeded Cumberland 68-54 in Monday’s second game.

The Pirates had a 22-13 lead at the first stop. Casey cut the lead to four points but trailed 40-33 at the break.

The Warriors tied the count at 50-50 in the third quarter and took a 54-50 lead into the final frame.

Zach Murphy had 15 points for the Warriors. Brandon Wolfe had 13, Ethan Blankenship 12 and Trivette Scales 10.

Trevor Brumleve led the Pirates with 17 points and Clint Carlen had 12.

Casey, 15-11, faces Robinson on Wednesday.

Golf

• Sycamores seventh — At Birmingham, Ala., Indiana State placed seventh Monday at the Ann Rhoads Invitational in the first match of its spring season.

ISU shot an opening round of 357 on Sunday, after rain wiped out a practice round Saturday and more rain came Sunday, but followed with a 332 on Monday for a two-day total of 689 at Oxmoor Valley Golf Course.

Christina Beyerl tied for 24th with rounds of 88 and 81 to lead the Sycamores. Amanda Smith shot 90-81, Emily Dixon 90-84, McCall Christopher 89-87 and Reece Feducia 93-86.

Darin Pinnick of the University of Indianapolis was medalist, winning a playoff over Jennifer Sullivan of Methodist after both shot 158. Indianapolis won the team championship with 644, 14 shots better than runner-up Tennessee Tech. Birmingham Southern was the host school.

Next competition for Indiana State is the Sunshine Spring Classic on March 7-8 at Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, a tournament hosted by Detroit-Mercy.



Tennis

• Moore named — Nathan Moore of Rose-Hulman had a pair of victories Saturday against Trine and was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Player of the Week.

Rose plays again March 10 against Franklin and Indiana Tech.
