Metro Roundup: Edgar County Fair harness racing gets rolling
Paris, Ill. — Six heats on an early evening card marked the opening of three days of Illinois harness racing Monday at the Edgar County Fair.
Racing continues today and Wednesday. Post time is 1 p.m. CDT.
Cole Hand Luke, a 5-year-old pacer driven by Lewayne Miller, won its first race of the season and seventh of its career.
Trained by Erv Miller, the pacer made its first start of this season and 34th career start.
Four winners won for the second time this summer with two members of the Finn family driving them to victory.
Merry Moneymaker, 2-year-old trotter driven by Jerome Daniels and owned by Jamaica Patton, made its seventh career start and increased its winnings to more than $3,000.
Frontier Belle, 4-year-old pacer driven by Harold Finn Jr., made its 13rh start of the season and 20th career start.
Lollipop Guild, 4-year-old trotter driven by Alan Finn, made its seventh start of the season and ninth career start.
Striking Tycoon, 3-year-old trotter driven by Larry Binkley, was an easy winner, making its third start of the year and 10th career start.
Brenttalkliketonto, 2-year-old colt trotter driven by Jared Finn, made its seventh career start and increased its early winnings to more than $6,500.

• Riley 10s win — At Bloomington, the Riley 10s won the Bloomington Invitational played this weekend.
In pool play, Riley defeate dLawrence 16-0, Edgewood Explosion 14-1 and Bloomington Braves 15-1. Then in the single elimination round, Riley defeated Lawrence 24-0, Vincennes 5-4, then Lawrence County All-Stars 13-3 in the championship game.
The Riley 10s also placed second in last week’s Cal Ripken Southwest State Final, losing 7-6 in the championship game to Newburgh. Riley will conclude its All -Star season this weekend in Crawfordsville.

About the only prize Kokomo Post 6 wound up with at American Legion baseball’s Terre Haute Regional was an extra day in the host city. But whether they knew it or not, the players from that team took something else home with them Monday afternoon — a healthy dose of gratitude from the players of Wayne Newton Post 346.

TH Women's City: Rachael Pruett needs 20 holes to edge recent Sycamore
Ball State and Indiana State needed overtime to settle their differences Monday afternoon at Rea Park. Actually, this wasn’t basketball and neither university was officially involved. But both were proudly represented in the entertaining championship-flight finale of the Terre Haute Women’s City Match Play Championships as two extra holes were needed to determine a winner. Linton resident Rachael Pruett, a senior-to-be on the Ball State women’s golf team, won her third straight women’s city title by chipping in from 18 feet on the 20th hole (No. 2 on the course) and edging recent ISU graduate Mackenzie Mack 1 up.

They didn’t return to Putnam County with any giant-sized hardware Monday. But 17-year-old Chelsea Samuels of Greencastle and her grandmother, Gloria Curtis of Cloverdale, made the Terre Haute Women’s City Match Play Championships a fun family affair at Rea Park Golf Course.
