METRO ROUNDUP: ISU softball to play two today

TERRE HAUTE — The Indiana State softball team’s opening game of a three-game series against Bradley was washed out Saturday.

The series will resume today with a doubleheader, beginning at noon at Price Field.

Baseball

n Engineers win second game Friday, no contest Saturday — At Art Nehf Field, Rose-Hulman’s series finale with Hanover was declared a no-contest game Saturday because of dense fog in the outfield.

The two teams were tied 2-2 in the fourth inning when the game was delayed by rain for 75 minutes. After play resumed the game continued to the midpoint of the fifth inning, when fog made the outfield unplayable. All statistics were nullified, and due to Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference guidelines the game will not be made up.

Rose got its second win of the series 4-2 in the second game of Friday night’s doubleheader. Freshman Ben Menich pitched seven innings for his third win of the season and Ryan Fuller earned his third save by finishing off the last two innings.

Offensively, Hank Akard and Nick Pilipovich had two hits each and Bobby Newman scored two runs.

Rose-Hulman is 19-8, 10-3 in HCAC play, while Hanover is 17-12 and 7-7. Rose plays Tuesday at Franklin.
