Terre Haute man facing work-related felonies

A Terre Haute man has been arrested on suspicion of using his work computer to view child pornography.

Christopher Cyre, 38, appeared via video in Vigo Superior Court 6 on Tuesday where Judge Michael Lewis read the charges of child solicitation and child exploitation, both class-C felonies, and child pornography, a class-D felony.

According to court documents, Cyre was an employee at a Terre Haute bank when police received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about Cyre.

Indiana State Police Detective Jason Calloway reported that he and members of the Hamilton County Child Exploitation Task Force came to Terre Haute to talk to Cyre, an IT administrator, about online chats he allegedly had with juvenile females. An examination of Cyre’s cellular phone and work laptop revealed pornographic images of juvenile females.

Cyre stated that he never met any of the juvenile females with whom he chatted.

Lewis set a trial date of Aug. 5 for Cyre.

Terre Haute man allegedly made threats with gun

A Terre Haute man faces felony charges of intimidating and pointing a firearm after a domestic disturbance Monday afternoon at an apartment complex on Spruce Street.

Anthony Carpton, 20, was arrested after his ex-girlfriend told police that the man had pointed a gun at her and threatened to kill her.

Detective Troy Davis testified Tuesday in Vigo Superior Court 6 that at 12:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a report of a man with a .45-caliber handgun who threatened to shoot a woman.

When police arrived at the scene, a man matching a description of the suspect ran from the area, and police followed. The man was soon located in a parking lot in the 600 block of North 13th Street. The man was stopped and detained, and police found the suspect’s backpack and a handgun in a nearby trash container.

Carpton was arrested on suspicion of intimidation and pointing a firearm, both class-D felonies, as well as resisting law enforcement, a class-A misdemeanor. He will return to court Friday for formal arraignment.

Judge Michael Lewis set bail for Carpton at $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed.

Putnamville State Police to conduct checkpoint

The Putnamville District of the Indiana State Police will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Vigo County during the late evening hours Friday, according to a press release.

The checkpoint is in conjunction with the Operation Pull Over’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.”

Drivers who encounter a checkpoint will be required to produce a valid driver’s license and registration. Motorists who are not impaired can expect only short delays of two to three minutes while passing through the checkpoint.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to adhere to two basic principles when consuming alcohol: Do not drink and drive, and always use a designated driver.
