School bus and pickup collide; no injuries reported

TERRE HAUTE — A school bus and a pickup truck collided this morning in the southbound lanes of Indiana 63 at Bolton Road in northern Vigo County.

No injuries were reported by students or the drivers.

Indiana State Police Trooper Ted Robertson reported that at 7:36 a.m., he came upon the collision involving a Vigo County School Corp. bus and a pickup truck. The bus was occupied by three elementary students and the driver.

A preliminary investigation showed that the 2001 International bus, driven by Michael H. Jones, 60, of Clinton, was northbound on Indiana 63 and turned left to go westbound on Bolton Road. The bus drove into the path of a southbound 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Rita K. Sivertson, 51, of West Terre Haute.

The bus driver was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.

The children were transported from the scene by VCSC officials.

Assisting Robertson at the crash scene were ISP Master Trooper Jason Owen and VCSC officials.
